Countertransference
In psychotherapy, countertransference refers to the therapist’s emotional reactions—both conscious and unconscious—stirred by the client’s experiences, behaviors, or stories. These responses can be shaped by the therapist’s own history, values, or unresolved feelings. While countertransference can present challenges, it can also become a valuable tool for deeper understanding when recognized and reflected upon.
I created these artworks as a way to process my own projections and emotional responses to the heartfelt stories shared by the patients I worked with during my internship. The collage process helped me collect my thoughts, honor the complexity of these experiences, and explore how art can support both reflection and healing.
