Countertransference

In therapy, countertransference refers to the therapist’s emotional reactions—both conscious and unconscious—stirred by the client’s experiences, behaviors, or stories. These responses can be shaped by the therapist’s own history, values, or unresolved feelings. While countertransference can present challenges, it can also become a valuable tool for deeper understanding when recognized and reflected upon.

Lindsay created these artworks to process her own projections and emotional responses to her patients’ heartfelt narratives. Through collage, she gathered her thoughts, honored the complexity of these experiences, and explored how art can support both reflection and healing.
